Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra was founded in 2009, and the orchestra was formerly known as the Orchestra of Zhejiang Song and Dance Theater, which has a history of nearly 60 years. Relying on the profound cultural background of Zhejiang province, the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra plays a classical works of symphonies while absorbing the nutrients from the folk Music. The orchestra has composed and performed a large number of symphonic works with strong regional cultural characteristics such as Shan Hai Jing, Village Opera and The Road of Tang Poetry which was widely appreciated and warmly welcomed by the audience.

It has made many of tours mainly including South Korea, Japan, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, Algeria, Brazil and other countries as well as Macao. The performances of the orchestra were praised as the most orientated and beautiful concert by the audience.

During the 6th BRICs in July 2014, the orchestra was dispatched by the Ministry of Culture, accompanying President Xi Jinping’s visit to Brazil, and held two concerts successfully in Fortaleza and Brasilia. The performances were highly praised by President Xi Jinping and warmly welcomed by the locals. At the G20 Summit held in Hangzhou in September 2016, the performance of the Orchestra is highly praised by the leaders of many countries.
