Zhejiang Cultural Museum (formerly known as Zhejiang Mass Art Museum) was established in 1955 and is one of the earliest established provincial-level cultural centers in new China. It is a public welfare mass cultural institution, which consists of the performing arts instruction center, the sociocultural instruction center, visual arts instruction center, folk art instruction center (Cheng Yunxian Sculpture Museum), theory creation instruction center, foreign culture exchange center, culture and arts training center (level examination office), and digital information service center, office, finance department, etc. At present, the museum has a total of 64 manning quotas and 49 staff on the strength.

In 1986, the original building of the Cultural Museum built in 1950s on the former site of Wulin Road adjacent to the West Lake in Hangzhou, was renovated into an office building and a small theater. In January 2014, the Zhejiang Cultural Museum at the West Lake Cultural Square (including the Cheng Yunxian Sculpture Museum) was open to the public. The total area of the two museums is 10640 square meters.

In its work practice, Zhejiang Cultural Museum always implements the principles of public culture public welfare, equality and convenience, and earnestly fulfills its duties of serving the society, serving the grassroots, and serving the masses. It also regards creation of fine works of literature and art, brand activities, and cultivation of literary talents as an important responsibility for mass cultural work. It has won the “Five ‘One’ Project” award for the National Spiritual Civilization Construction of the Central Propaganda Department for seven consecutive years, and the number of award-winning works in the national “Galaxy Award” has been in the forefront for many years in Zhejiang Province; the Zhejiang Provincial Choral Festival, the Exhibition of Provincial Rural Cultural Hall Construction Achievements, the provincial choreography contest and other brand activities, as well as the “100 Experts Link 100 Villages” rural cultural hall business coaching, and the series of rural literary and art backbone training in underdeveloped areas were widely welcomed by the masses.
